Exciting plans for the Stour Way

I recently met with local campaigner and volunteer Colin Maltby, alongside Jo, Becky and Nell from the Severn Rivers Trust, to discuss exciting plans for the Stour Way – a proposed walking route celebrating the River Stour and the important role it has played in shaping communities across our area.

The proposed route would help more people connect with one of the Black Country’s greatest natural assets. It could also improve access to green space, support local regeneration and encourage residents and visitors to explore the river and its surrounding landscape.

The launch of the Government’s new National River Walks funding programme presents a valuable opportunity to bring investment into the Black Country. If the Stour Way proposal is successful, funding could support improved paths and accessibility, clearer wayfinding, ecological restoration projects and meaningful community involvement.

Thank you to Colin and everyone at the Severn Rivers Trust for sharing their vision and the work already under way. I look forward to continuing to work with them, local volunteers, and other partners to explore how we can help make this exciting project a reality.
