It was a pleasure to attend the recent National Emergency Briefing in Stourbridge to watch the powerful, educational film that has been created, and to hear directly from local residents about the environmental issues that matter most to our community.

The briefing gave me the opportunity to discuss the challenges we face locally, from protecting our green spaces and restoring nature to reducing emissions and ensuring our communities are prepared for the impacts of climate change.

The film itself with extremely powerful, and together with a number of Parliamentary colleagues, I’ve signed a call for it to be televised nationally during a prime time slot. You can find out more about the film, and the Parliamentary call, here – National Emergency Briefing.

The climate crisis is not a problem for future generations to solve alone. We are already seeing its effects through more frequent heatwaves, flooding and extreme weather, with consequences for our health, our economy, our food security and our natural environment. That is why I believe we must continue to take practical, ambitious action to cut emissions while supporting communities and creating good jobs.

I would like to thank everyone who attended the National Emergency Briefing, the organisers, and the General Office gallery for hosting. These conversations are invaluable and help inform the work I do both locally and in Westminster.

I’ve since raised some of the issues highlighted in the film in Parliament, and will continue working with residents, local organisations, businesses and environmental groups to champion practical climate action, ensuring that Stourbridge, Brierley Hill and Netherton play their part in building a cleaner, greener and more sustainable future.
