As we approach Christmas, I’m reminded every day of the kindness and warmth that define our community here in Stourbridge.

This is a season where compassion comes to the forefront – in our food banks, community centres, schools, and places of worship – and it shows the very best of who we are.

Kindness is not just a sentiment; it is a responsibility. At this time of year, many families feel pressures that can be hard to talk about.

That is why the work of local volunteers, charities, and community groups is so vital. Their quiet acts of service embody the values we share: looking out for each other, offering dignity, and making sure no one is left behind.

These values – fairness, compassion, and responsibility – were at the heart of a recent interview I gave to LBC. We spoke about immigration and the need for a system that is both firm and humane.

Stourbridge residents want secure borders and an immigration system that works, but they also believe in treating people with decency. Those two principles are not in conflict; they are essential partners.

 Labour’s values guide me on this. We believe in protecting our borders, stopping exploitation, and ensuring that migration works for the country.

But we also believe that people must be treated fairly, and that scapegoating vulnerable groups does nothing to solve the challenges we face. I will always stand up for policies that reflect both security and compassion – because that is what my constituents expect and deserve.

 As your representative, I remain focused on making sure national decisions reflect the realities and priorities of people here in Stourbridge. Whether it is supporting families, the elderly and vulnerable through the winter, or making sure community voices are heard in Parliament, I will keep championing practical solutions rooted in kindness.

 Christmas is a reminder that our strength as a town comes from how we treat one another. The lights in our high streets, the school concerts, and the festive gatherings all reflect a deeper truth: community is built not on division, but on care.

 I wish everyone across Stourbridge a peaceful and compassionate Christmas season.
