September 2025 Update – Back to parliament after a busy summer

As Parliament reconvened this week after the summer recess, it feels a little like the familiar “Back to School” season.

I know across the constituency our classrooms have returned after a summer of great exam results with sharpened pencils, new timetables, and a sense of renewed energy. For MPs, however, it’s “Back to Parliament,” where the focus shifts from summer in our constituencies to debates and decisions in Westminster.

It has been a busy and rewarding few months locally. Nothing beats a summer in the Black Country, and I have been fortunate enough to spend my recess here at home in Stourbridge, taking the time to refresh, ready for the new Parliamentary year, as well as getting on with some important constituency work that has led to a great August.

One highlight was the wonderful heritage news that the much-loved Netherton Arts Centre has officially been granted Grade II listed status, after my campaigning for this.

This recognition protects an important part of our shared history, and I’ll continue working with local partners to help bring the building back into community use.

We’ve also made progress on the issue of fly tipping, something residents raise with me time and again. Working with the Stourbridge BID team, we’ve been tidying up our streets and green spaces. The results are clear to see, and our community is cleaner and safer for it.

Summer has also been about celebrating together. The Wollaston Village Hall Beer Festival over the August Bank Holiday was a great success, and I enjoyed pulling a shift behind the bar. This was an incredibly fun reminder of my younger barmaid days!

It was a brilliant event, with all proceeds going back into the Hall.

Meanwhile, the Amblecote Party in the Park brought families, friends, and neighbours together for a day of fun, music, and community spirit. It was a fantastic showcase of everything that makes our area special.

Meeting residents directly is always a highlight. I’ve been out hosting door-knocking sessions across the constituency, listening to your concerns and ideas.

These conversations are invaluable, and I want to thank everyone who has taken the time to stop and chat. It is always a pleasure to meet the people I represent.

I managed to visit Dudley College of Technology’s Construction Training Centre in Brierley Hill, which was awarded CTEC status over summer. This is a huge step in making our area a hub for technical skills and future jobs.

Looking ahead, there’s much to be excited about with Parliament back in session. I can assure you, I’ll be taking your voices to Westminster, ready to continue working hard on your behalf this year.
