An inspiring visit to Team Pumpkin Boxing

Great to visit Team Pumpkin Boxing and meet Carl and Ben Collins to hear about the incredible work they are doing for young people in our community.

From the moment I walked through the doors, it was clear that this is about so much more than boxing. Team Pumpkin is creating a place where young people can build confidence, feel safe, improve their physical and mental wellbeing and develop skills that will stay with them for life.

I was particularly inspired to hear about the opportunities available, from competitive boxing and coaching qualifications to Ben’s healthy eating programme, which helps children and their families learn more about nutrition. I also loved hearing about the girls only sessions, which give young women a welcoming space to build confidence, self esteem and fitness.

The club is making a real difference beyond the gym too. Their work with schools, holiday clubs, anti social behaviour prevention and knife crime awareness is helping to support young people and create safer communities. I was also pleased to see the knife amnesty bin outside the gym, installed by the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, giving people a safe and anonymous way to dispose of knives.

A huge thank you to Carl, Ben and everyone involved with Team Pumpkin Boxing for the warm welcome and for everything you do. I look forward to continuing to support your work so that even more young people can benefit from this fantastic community gym.
