Cat Eccles MP for Stourbridge has been settling into the House of Commons, quickly learning the myriad of Parliamentary procedures to represent the people of Stourbridge in Westminster.
Following the election, Cat has been diligently working her way through a packed schedule. This has included the induction sessions for new MPs, affirming her oath of allegiance, attending various events such as the Community Wealth Fund drop-in, West Midlands Business reception, and Banning Animal Trophy Hunting where she spoke with Sir Ranulph Fiennes.
Cat has been one of the first of the new in MPs to ask questions in the House of Commons chamber. The first was during the Covid Inquiry Debate on Friday 19th July 2024, where she related her own experiences of being a frontline NHS worker to ask whether the views and experiences of frontline staff will be taken into future pandemic planning. On Thursday 25th July 2024, Cat asked her second question, on the subject of statutory adoption pay for self-employed people.
With the new government taking the unusual step of keeping their MPs in Westminster for the full working week to push through the King’s Speech debates, Cat has spent her weekends back in Stourbridge. Cat attended a Police Surgery in Stourbridge Town Library on Saturday 20th July 2024. The weekend after, Cat has been assisting local councillors drive forward a Stourbridge Library of Things, visited the West Midlands Fire Service to celebrate their 50th anniversary and visited various local businesses in the community.
Speaking before she returned to her constituency for the Recess, Cat Eccles MP said “I have spent a lot of my time getting to grips with Westminster, meeting with my new colleagues and the wider House of Commons staff. But truthfully, I have never appreciated Stourbridge more and I’m looking forward to being back home and getting down to work for my constituents.”.
Cat has returned to Stourbridge for the Summer Recess, where she will spend the summer meeting with constituents, attending local functions and businesses. One of her first priorities is to hold drop-in sessions for pensioners concerned by the winter-fuel payment announcement, where she will offer her support and help in any way that she can.
Cat Eccles is the newly elected Member of Parliament for Stourbridge.
