Last month was another busy one both in Westminster and across the constituency.
In Parliament, I raised concerns about Dudley Council’s ongoing difficulties with collecting food waste and kerbside recycling.
This is an issue many residents have contacted me about, and it’s vital that households can rely on consistent, effective waste services. I will continue pressing for improvements so that residents receive the standard of service they deserve.
I also spoke in Parliament about the vital role of Allied Health Professionals (people like Physios, Radiographers and Operating Department Practitioners) who are absolutely essential to our NHS but too often overlooked. I made the point that if we’re serious about cutting waiting lists and improving care, we need to properly support these staff, with real workforce plans, investment and the removable of unnecessary barriers to them effectively doing their jobs.
I’ve also spent a lot of time meeting people in Stourbridge, Brierley Hill and Netherton who are doing amazing things – from the wonderful school council students at the Link Academy who are working hard to make their school an even better place through environmental initiatives, events and improvements to school dinners, to the fantastic team at Mentor Link an organisation supporting young people across our area through their innovative mentoring scheme.
I also had the privilege of meeting the minds behind Animal Antics, a very special book which is beautifully illustrated by a talented local artist. This book supports boys living with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy – a cause that is close to the author’s heart, and can be picked up from a number of local businesses, and online. Talking of books, it was great to visit Stourcote Dental Practice who’ve introduced a pay as you feel book corner, supporting the Dudley Children’s Book Group.
There are many ways to get involved in the work I’m doing in the coming months, and I’m keen to hear your views on what matters most. Netherton and Holly Hall have been awarded £20 million in Pride of Place funding from the Government (£2 million a year for 10 years) to invest in local initiatives. This funding will be shaped by local voices, so please get in touch if you have ideas or projects that could benefit.
This month also marks the final SEND consultation sessions before I share the views of parents, professionals and stakeholders from across the constituency with Parliament. In addition, I’m currently gleaning local views on fast food outlets near schools, helping to inform future policy in this area.
As always, if you need assistance or would like to share your views, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
